Broken Bow

Over the July 4th weekend, we had our Eckel family reunion in Broken Bow, Oklahoma. We usually have the reunion at Lake Jacksonville but decided to try something different this year. We love Broken Bow and were happy to go back again this year.

We couldn't check into the cabin until later in the afternoon so once we all got to Broken Bow, we met for lunch at The Grateful Head, a highly recommended pizza place! Yums!

Cousins reunited!

And the girls too!

After lunch, we started the day with a horse back ride. We rode on a different trail this year and it was great.

Checking out the bird that was at the horse stable.

Luke rode with Grandma this year.

Sarah with Jim

and Jacob with mommy.

Super fun ride!

We were fortunate enough to find two houses that were grouped together that would fit our large group of 33!
This is the main house which was complete with a large living area, two bunk rooms, two large bathrooms with multiple showers and toilets, large kitchen, and a covered porch overlooking the river. Just perfect!

This is the second house which had two bedrooms. We joked that all snorers would be put in this house! ha! It worked out great for my parents and an aunt and uncle to sleep here.

We got a good laugh out of all the ice chests lined up.

Once we got there, the kids headed right down to the river to do some fishing.

They even found their own bait. Earthworms. Luke named himself the "chopper" as he would use a rock to cut the worms in half and then pass them out to those with a fishing pole.  He's never been one to be afraid of getting his hands on any kind of bug.

Worms, worms and more worms!

Jacob working hard to catch a fish.

Mission Accomplished!

Looking up at the house from the river.

Luke deep in thought. The water was so still and the reflection on the water was so pretty. .

Canoe trip!!

Stopping for a swim break.

My dad with three of the grandkids! Poor guy!

I will say this was a very eventful canoe trip. Jim and I tipped over twice going through two different sets of rapids. Between the whole group, we had a total of five tips that day! Oh boy!!

I love when our kids get to spend so much time outside doing things they don't get to do at home. Such a nice change of pace! The rest of the weekend was filled with... well....lots of outdoor fun...

They played on the water slide to cool off...

They swam in the river...

She napped...

They played princesses on the porch...

They climbed tree ladders...yes that's Sarah...

They collected rocks...

and more rocks...

We celebrated Gabriel's 11th birthday...

With lots of laughs...

And silly faces...

The girls collected caterpillars and made them a rock house...

And played with them until there wasn't much left...

They played shuffleboard...

And four-square...

And found a walking stick...

Played cards with Grandma...

Played chase with Grandpa until they got water poured on them...

Saw a water moccasin making his way back to the river...

And all huddled around and watched while my cousin Kyle killed it...

We played this fun game...

Cooked lots of BBQ...

Ate homemade ice cream...

Played with lots of second cousins...

Posed for lots and lots of pictures...

One of my cousins owns a tshirt company and made us all tshirts for the weekend!

Hey guys...say cheese...

this way....

Cheese!

This is the first picture we took with the camera timer on the tripod...still surprised all the kids are looking.

We had a great time together and definitely made some great memories!
